The story behind the band
In the late 1920s, the young banjo player Jean “Django” Reinhardt lost the use of two fingers on his left hand in a fire in his caravan. Instead of giving up, he developed an entirely new technique – and became the founder of jazz manouche. He combined Sinti rhythms with the jazz of his time and, together with Stéphane Grappelli, founded the legendary Quintette du Hot Club de France.
The trio carries this fascination forward: its repertoire ranges from 1930s classics to contemporary compositions. The bouncing “la pompe” rhythm remains the heart of the music, while the solos leave room for new colours.
