Duo Solèra - Julia Hornung & Giangiacomo Rosso

Duo Solèra is an intimate yet powerful dialogue between double bass and guitar, formed by bassist Julia Hornung (Germany) and guitarist Giangiacomo Rosso (Italy). Rooted in the tradition of Gypsy Swing and Swing Manouche, the duo expands this language through a contemporary, chamber-like approach that emphasizes sound, interaction, and storytelling over virtuosity for its own sake.
At the heart of Duo Solèra lies the idea of reduction as freedom. By stripping the music down to its essential elements—rhythm, harmony, melody, and shared time—the duo creates space for nuance, spontaneity, and deep musical communication. Without drums or rhythm guitar, both instruments take on multiple roles: the bass is simultaneously foundation and melodic voice, while the guitar moves fluidly between rhythm, counterpoint, and lyrical improvisation. This constant exchange results in a dynamic, breathing sound that feels both grounded and open.
The repertoire combines original compositions with carefully selected pieces from the Gypsy Swing tradition, reimagined through the duo’s personal lens. Influences from Italian lyricism, French jazz aesthetics, and modern European jazz subtly shape the music, allowing tradition and innovation to coexist naturally. Rather than recreating historical forms, Duo Solèra treats the genre as a living language—one that can be spoken softly, transparently, and with contemporary sensibility.
Conceptually, the project focuses on closeness and presence: music that invites the audience into a shared space of listening, where small gestures matter and silence is as meaningful as sound. This makes Duo Solèra especially suited for concert settings that value artistic intimacy, acoustic detail, and a strong connection between performers and audience.
For festivals, Duo Solèra offers a program that is refined, emotionally direct, and internationally resonant—bridging Southern European warmth with the clarity and depth of modern jazz, while honoring the spirit of Swing Manouche in a fresh, personal way.
